Spending the winter of 2025 in Playa del Carmen was everything I hoped a snowbird escape could be: warm days, salty air, friendly faces, and a rhythm of life that made it easy to slow down and truly enjoy each moment. From morning dog walks by the sea to spontaneous ferry rides and colorful market stops, Playa quickly felt like home.
One of the joys of a longer stay is discovering the everyday comforts that turn a destination into a lifestyle. Mornings often started with beautiful sunrises, the sky painted in soft pinks and golds, followed by pleasantly warm days and breezy evenings. The weather was consistently fantastic—sunny, warm, and ideal for being outdoors year-round.
Walking our dog became a daily ritual and a great way to explore different neighborhoods. Playa is incredibly dog-friendly, and these walks led us to hidden corners of the city, quiet streets, and scenic beachfront paths.
Playa del Carmen has an impressive food scene, and discovering great restaurants was one of the highlights of the stay. From casual local spots to international cuisine, there was always something new to try. Friendly servers were quick to offer recommendations, and many meals turned into conversations with locals and fellow travelers.
Grocery shopping was just as enjoyable. I loved stopping by small fruit markets for fresh mangos, papaya, avocados, and limes, while large supermarket chains made it easy to stock up on familiar staples. Having both options made everyday living convenient and delicious.
Strolling along Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) never got old. Whether it was early morning before the crowds or in the evening when the street came alive, it was always buzzing with energy. Street performers, shops, cafés, and warm smiles from locals created a welcoming atmosphere that made Playa feel vibrant yet relaxed.
The locals truly added to the experience—helpful, welcoming, and always ready for a chat or a tip about where to go next.
Exploring the beaches was a constant adventure. Each stretch of sand had its own vibe, from quiet spots perfect for long walks to lively beach clubs with loungers, music, and refreshing drinks. Having the freedom to choose a different beach day by day made winter feel anything but routine.
One of the biggest perks of Playa del Carmen is its location. Day trips were effortless and unforgettable:
Transportation was simple and affordable. Taxis were readily available for short trips around town, while ADO buses made longer journeys comfortable and stress-free. Whether heading to nearby towns or planning a day adventure, getting around was never a challenge.
Winter 2025 in Playa del Carmen was the perfect blend of routine and adventure. Between the amazing weather, stunning sunrises, welcoming community, and endless things to explore, it was a snowbird stay that checked every box. Playa del Carmen isn’t just a winter getaway—it’s a place that invites you to live fully, even if just for a season. Contact me and let me help you plan your snowbird winter adventure.
